| 1988 Porsche 911 Targa
-Also Rode Hard, Put Away Wet
This car has been my baby for a long time. I purchased her back in 1997 as a gift to myself for being on the 'up and up' in my life. At the time, the car was 9 years old and had 86k on the clock. It was my only car, and I drove her in rain, sleet and snow for quite a number of years. I have driven her back and forth from Seattle a number of times. I have gone fast in her, and I have gone slow. I have been hit in her a few times. I have never, ever gotten a ticket in her. For a very long time, I would take her into the shop for work to be done. After the yearly $2000 Porsche taxation fee (mechanic) I started working on her myself. That has gone all right, but I haven't spent any money that I didn't have to, because.. "if it isn't broke, don't break it" That's a fine mantra, but for a piece of machinery that's damn near 20 years old, things don't necessarily rear up and claim "I'M BROKE!" Also, I have let minor nagging issues slide due to time and a proper workspace. For the last 2 years she has been mainly sitting due to a smoke issue (3.2 valve guides) and a lack of garage. I now have a garage, some spare time, and some cash. I also have a plan, and a vision of "autocross in a washing machine" ..and thus, it begins... Spring 2006 I
renovated the running gear on the car. |
